Today, VPM’s VP, Joseph Ryder, makes sense of the one question all salespeople ask themselves at one point or another in their career.

“When salespeople underperform, they seem to never be able to understand the real reason why this is happening to them. If this pertains to you, here’s what you need to do. Before you start dialing the phone (because you know better than to send a useless email), first, get up and leave your shame at the door, then ask yourself these questions:

  • Why are you at the bottom of the sales chart?
  • Why aren’t you closing deals?
  • Why is it that people who started selling after you are billing more?

The reason is, quite simply, fear. You fear what people might think of you. If you want to make money in sales, the first thing you need to do is eliminate your self-conscious. After all, what do feelings have to do with money?”
