Astor Place in NYC is known for many things, including the life work of local artist Jim Power, the iconic “Mosaic Trail” of tile-encrusted lampposts. Locals ensured that the mosaics will prevail long after the Astor Place redesign project ends. At the moment, the temporarily removed mosaics are stored safely in Queens and will be reinstated once the project is complete. While these mosaics are small, their history and cultural impact on the East Village speaks volumes.
