In New York City, the streets are everyone’s—it is the most used space in the entire city. Summer Streets is an annual celebration commemorating our culturally vibrant and historical public space. On three consecutive Saturdays, August 2, 9, and 12, seven miles of NYC streets are opened for people to use to their heart’s content, whether it’s walking, biking, jumping, or skateboarding.
The celebration offers an open environment for recreation and supports New Yorkers in making healthy, sustainable choices in regards to transportation. Last year, over 300,000 people took advantage of the open streets provided by Summer Streets. Modeled on events from around the globe, including Paris Plage in France, the event includes bike tours, walking tours, and of course, a big block party! The block party includes art workshops, musical performance, salsa dancing, wall climbing, and zip lining—what more could you want?
Don’t miss this fantastic, live-changing event held from 7am to 1pm, extending from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park along Park Avenue. All events are free of charge and open to all ages!
