Summer is the perfect time to spend outdoors, but how many of us actually take advantage of this? It’s easy to get stuck in a rut—commuting to and from work, and then shuffling from restaurant to a bar to someone’s apartment. Instead of putting off that bike ride, get a friend to go kayaking with you, for free! It’s not only a fun way to spend time with a close friend, but is a pleasurable way to exercise!

The Boathouse has three locations in Manhattan on the Hudson: Pier 26, Pier 96, and West 72nd Street. The only thing between you and a kayak is a waiver form (good for a year!), a life jacket, and knowing how to swim. Once you got all three of these components under your belt, you’re able to kayak out for 20 minutes at a time from May to October. The Boathouse provides all equipment and even gives free instruction. Below are the details for each location:

Pier 26 offers free kayaking on Saturdays & Sundays from 9am to 6pm; in July & August, the program includes weekday evenings from 5pm to 7pm.

Pier 96 offers free kayaking Saturdays & Sundays from 10am to 6pm, and Monday to Friday from 5pm to 7pm.

West 72nd St offers free kayaking Saturdays & Sundays from 10am to 5pm only.
