Nicole's Rant, 4th of July, June

Your favorite New Yorker and VPM’s Sales Manager, Nicole Prechtl, advises us on where to spend this upcoming Fourth of July weekend, which, of course, does not include New York City. As always, grab yourself some Advil, and we’ll let her take it from here.

“As many New Yorkers know, summertime in the city can be the best thing and worst thing ever. The best part about this time of the year is being able to meet up with friends after work for drinks or dinner on a rooftop. Since there are loads of outdoor spaces open, you can easily float around from one place to another and never get bored. The worst part about summer in Manhattan is that it’s filled with tourists, smelly streets, extremely hot subway cars, and there is less than a 3% chance of you ever having access to a refreshing sprinkler or pool to cool down. Rooftop pools in Manhattan? Keep dreaming.

For this coming Fourth of July weekend, I advise all New Yorkers to simply GET OUT. Instead, go to one of my summertime top five places, which does NOT include Central Park or anywhere on this island:

  1. Fire Island: Flynns!
  2. Long Beach, Long Island: anywhere on the wonderful strip
  3. Westchester: Rye Beach
  4. Hoboken: any bar/restaurant/residence on a rooftop or the waterfront
  5. Brooklyn: Brighten Beach by day, Coney Island by night”
